Sailing Takes Me Away To Where I’ve Always Heard It Could Be

Click on the photo above to hear the song.
Can’t upload my Playlist here, there’s no flash.

This song by Christopher Cross came about I believe around the 80’s which is right around the time my then husband and I opened a surf shop on Guam which quickly turned into more of a sailboard shop. I used to just love to sail and just cruise, no gnarly stuff for me, and I would hear this song play over and over in my head while I sailed. It was so relaxing and whenever I finished sailing I would feel so invigorated!

I remember me and my family, well the girls, and our friends would eat mostly grapes and we used to drink this really really good Vitamin C drink from Japan called Oronamin-C which I cannot find here on Maui. I sure could use some of it now!

Well I don’t sailboard anymore or even fool around with a bodyboard or surfboard but I have found something, and I always will find something that draws me to the beach, that I absolutely Love to do and that is collect beach sea glass.

At first I started just to keep busy while my son and a friend body boarded but then it just grew into a passion. I get so excited!!! when I see beach sea glass tumbling around in the surf. So excited that even when my ankles and shins get hit by rocks (it really hurts) I’m ok and keep going.

My first experience collecting beach sea glass was on Guam, Ricks Reef and Agana Boat Basin. It was so plentiful when I first started collecting, by the 80’s it seemed to have diminished and I was really saddened. One of the reasons I thought back then was the hotel built right there on the path we took to Rick’s.

Well here I am on Maui now and there’s beach sea glass here and I’m just loving collecting here! It relaxes me, invigorates me, and grounds me, just like sailboarding used to do only with sailboarding it also tuned my muscles. With beach sea glass collecting I’m really only tuning my legs…oh well it’s still awesome!

Soooooo, getting back to the song “Sailing” by Christopher Cross…I find that song being repeated over and over while I’m collecting beach sea glass as well. I get “all caught up in the reverie” and yes, “It’s not far back to sanity,
At least it’s not for me” rings so true for me too but at the same time, the reverie helps me to come back to sanity grounded and feeling good about life!

Plussss I get to use my creativity afterwards making jewelry, earrings, pendants, all kinds out of the nicer pieces of beach sea glass I find. I spend a lot of time thinking all kinds of ways I can use beach sea glass to make things.

Listen to the song and the words, it’s really deep and Christopher Cross is an awesome artistic musician!

New! Lime Green Wire Wrapped Earrings and Pendant

When I first started collecting beach sea glass I wasn’t really aware of the colors. Just seeing it washing up was exciting so I collected everything! Of course, most of the beach sea glass ended up being browns or various shades of browns. Next was the greens, kelly greens. I just figured there were more Budweiser Beer drinkers than Heineken Beer drinkers!

Well, that may be partly true. The next most common color I began finding was the white frost beach sea glass. That glass I would find washed up on shore in abundance. I began to ponder that maybe the browns and whites washed up mostly because it was light in density? I don’t know, sometimes it’s probably better not to think so much!!! I only thought that because I could see aquamarines thrashing around in the tumbler but it hardly ever washed up to shore.

Now that I’m really beginning to make and sell jewelry I’m beginning to learn about the common and uncommon to rare beach sea glass.

I had no idea that lime green was a very uncommon color to find. Yay for me I found a couple. Must keep some for me! Now according to Wikipedia, lime green beach sea glass comes from soda bottles during the 1960s.

I just made a set of lime green earrings and matching pendant yesterday.

It’s wire wrapped nice and snug and looking so beautiful and elegant! Christmas is coming and the goose is getting fat!

Speaking of Christmas I made another white frost sea glass pendant as well yesterday.

This piece of beach sea glass is really frosted and almost looks like snow wrapped with red copper wire to give it that cheery festive Christmas look that I Love so much.

Speaking of Love…This is my Love, my grandson, and he’s priceless to infinity and beyond!

Well, keep coming back because I’ll be adding more new things all the time.

Sea Food Recipe – Stuffed Mushrooms

I know this is a beach sea glass jewelry site/blog but I can’t help but share my other interests as well. I Love food! and I Love to cook food! So I thought how can I incorporate that Love with my subject: beach sea glass jewelry.

Well, Seafood! They both come from the sea right? So here I am with my first seafood recipe. Now this recipe is taken from my favorite recipe site, Pioneer Woman Cooks (Ree Drummond), you all have heard of her I’m sure!

This recipe she gives uses sausage but I would just substitute the sausage with shrimp instead. It is an awesome recipe! She has a way of just making it look soooooo ono (delicious) and soooooo festive! Just look at the photo of her finished product…

You can always go ahead and use sausage if you like but for the purposes of keeping this along the “sea” line I thought I would mention using shrimp instead of sausage. I actually would like shrimp more anyways.

I want to see Pioneer Woman’s yummy stuffed mushrooms recipe!

NEW! Sea Glass Christmas Ornaments!

I made these Christmas ornaments on Sunday (it wasn’t a very good beach sea glass collecting day) but forgot to post them yesterday so here I am early in the morning drinking coffee and posting Christmas Ornaments!

What a cheery way to start off a morning!

Speaking of cheery, here is a photo of the Christmas Ornaments I made:

If it doesn’t look cheery to you in the photo wait until you hang them on your Christmas tree and just watch as the lights bounce and reflect off of these cheery ornaments made of white frost beach sea glass wrapped in red copper wire making them look like gifts from the sea (except for the stocking looking one).

I’ll be posting more Christmas Ornaments, Christmas Earrings, and Christmas Pendants so if you’d like to know when I do that you can subscribe to my newsletter and you’ll be sent an email anytime I post NEW! items.

Newsletter Subscription

I’ve created a newsletter subscription for anyone that wants to keep up to date with the new creations I post here at

Natural Maui Beach Sea Glass Jewelry

as well as bits and pieces of happenings around the island of Maui and Hawaii.

Yesterday I wired some beach sea glass to adorn some votive candle holders. I’m really pleased with the results and hope you like them too. I plan to include a free soy/vegetable based votive candle made by Mia Bella Candles with each votive candle holder purchase (while supplies last).

I also added a lovely light aqua blue beach sea glass pendant. I tried a new thing and layered a tiny piece of seafoam with a tinier piece of cobalt blue beach sea glass in the front of the pendant.

Last but not least is a set of Christmas green wired on white frost beach sea glass earrings and matching pendant combining two of my favorites, Christmas and the beach!

I forgot! I made up a 6 piece set of red wired on white frost beach sea glass Christmas ornaments! It’ll be perfect to capture and reflect the lights of your Christmas tree! I’ll post it now!

Dream Weddings On Maui

Many of my beach outings include the witnessing of couples getting married on one of the many beautiful beaches of Maui, enjoying the sunset, the tropical climate, and the overall spiritual and mysterious nature of the island of Maui.

100_1196

There are people ready to make your dream a reality on Maui. I’m not one of them but although I can’t vouch for any of them since I never used any of their services I will provide links to them from time to time. They must be good because people keep coming back to Maui to get Maui’d!

If you are planning your wedding for Maui and haven’t found a wedding planner yet you might try contacting The Maui Wedding Association for a list of wedding planner service providers.

It’s amazing how much they can do for you!

If you need a minister to officiate your wedding I can direct you to someone who has many years of experience not only in officiating Hawaiian Wedding Ceremonies in Olelo (Hawaiian) but he is also a healing practitioner that has studied the traditional Hawaiian healing arts with some of the most revered Kahunas in Hawaii. His name is Bula Logan and along with his wife, Dr. Miho Fukuda they make a wonderful team of healing, light, and Love.

Natural Maui Beach Sea Glass Find 11-11-09

This was a pretty interesting day. There was a storm lurking around. It had rained the night before in Kahului but today was just a really overcast day with little rays of sunshine trying to peek out.

I went early in the morning with my sea glass hunting partner, Richard, my son. He’s a trooper getting up with me almost every morning early to go look for sea glass. He always ends up jumping in the water to body board though so it’s not so bad.

There was someone already there when I got there but he was looking for puka shells mostly. I managed to collect quite a bit in the morning. There’s a beautiful cobalt blue piece on the top middle of the photo below. It’s perfect with no dings or scratches. I can’t wait to make a pendant from that piece. Also another really nice find is the big aqua blue on the right. That I spotted and waited and waited and waited until it rolled right on up to me. It took awhile for that to happen but I focused on other glass until that one came to me. I quit right after I found that piece because I was getting pounded! I came back later on in the afternoon and the next photo shows that find.

Not a bad batch. The white sea glass on the top right that’s laying by the puka shell I already used to make a beautiful Christmas adornment on a votive candle holder. Photos of that will be available tomorrow.

This is my find all together for the day. Pretty good and I was happy but oh sooo tired! I got rid of a lot of glass before I took the photo and then when sorting the colors to put in their respective boxes I had to let go of more. That’s how it is. That’s why it’s important to look for sea glass every day if possible.

Natural Maui Beach Sea Glass Find 11-10-09

Well today it looks like I got more beach sea glass but not really. Today I decided to start collecting browns again. Especially if it has a really nice shape and/or if it’s more the amber color.

I was quite pleased with today and really ecstatic over that large cobalt blue piece I found!

Here are some close up pics of the cobalt blue piece I found. It looks like a piece was broken off but somehow got reattached? It’s beautiful the way the light shines between the crack. It looks huge but it only measures 1 3/4″ x 1″, nevertheless it’s the biggest cobalt blue I’ve ever found to date.
